ROME, Italy — Former Lady Tiger Stephanie Durst won the 100 meters to highlight a day of competition for several former LSU track and field athletes at the Borotalco Golden Gala in Rome.
Durst, a three-time NCAA champion and 12-time All-American while running for the Lady Tigers, toppled the competition by almost two-tenths of a second, crossing the finishing line in 11.20. Durst fended off former LSU teammate, Muna Lee, who finished second in 11.35.
Earning a third finish on the men’s side was former Tiger standout Xavier Carter. Running in the first 400-meter race of his professional career, Carter finished second to Olympic gold medalist Jeremy Wariner, 43.62-44.76, in his heat and was better by Gary Kikaya in the first heat (44.66).
Former Lady Tiger Lolo Jones turned in a fourth-place showing in the women’s 100-meter hurdles. The three-time NCAA champion and 11-time All-American stopped the clock at 12.70.
Other former athletes on the track included Tigers Alleyne Francique and Kelly Willie and Lady Tiger Hazelann Regis.
Francique, an indoor world champion in the 400 meters, finished 10th in the event (45.33), while Willie was 15th in the 100 meters (10.28).
Regis finished 10th in the 400 meters with a time of 50.77.
In addition, Walter Davis placed 11th in the long jump with a leap of 25-1 1/4.
