Seven Former Track Athletes Set for USA Indoors

Lee, Durst Finish in Top 7 at USATF Championships

INDIANAPOLIS — Former Lady Tiger sprinters Muna Lee and Stephanie Durst recorded a 5-7 finish in the 100 meters Friday evening as action from the AT&T USA Track and Field Championships continued from Michael A. Carroll Stadium.

Easily advancing through the day’s two qualifying round heats, Lee and Durst lined up in the finals and finished in 11.24 and 11.29, respectively.
The time was the best of the day for Lee through the three rounds of competition, while Durst’s mark matched that of her first round heat.

Olympic gold medalist Marion Jones came away with the event title, crossing the line in a speedy 11.10 seconds.

In the men’s 100 meters, recently departed Tiger Kelly Willie advanced to semifinal round competition and just missed a bid to the finals, finishing ninth with a time of 10.32.

In other qualifying round competition, former LSU standouts Lolo Jones and Derrick Brew each moved on.

Jones made it to the semifinals in the women’s 100-meter hurdles after posting the sixth fastest time among first round competitors (12.97).

Brew earned a trip to tomorrow’s final in the 400 meters. He grabbed the eighth and final spot with a time of 45.41.

The lone former Tiger competing in a final was John Moffitt in the long jump. The 2004 Olympic silver medalist finished 15th with a leap of 23-10 ?.

Action from the USA Championships continues tomorrow. Competition is slated to get underway at 10:30 a.m.
