BATON ROUGE — LSU second baseman J.T. Wise has been named to the 2006 Collegiate Baseball magazine Freshmen All-America squad. Wise is the 12th LSU player to earn Freshmen All-America honors this decade.
Wise, a native of Apopka, Fla., batted .299 this season with 13 doubles, 11 homers and 40 RBI. He was second on the LSU club in homers, RBI and doubles, and he led the team with 66 hits. Wise recorded a .978 fielding percentage with only five errors in 224 chances.
Wise, who also earned 2006 Freshmen All-SEC honors, hit .354 (23-for-65) on the year with runners in scoring position, and he produced 19 multiple-hit games.
Wise led LSU to a series victory over league champion Alabama (April 14-16), providing the game-winning hits in Games 1 and 2. He was named SEC Freshman of the Week on March 13 as he hit .563 (9-for-16) in four games versus Tulane and Stetson.
Wise produced a career-high four RBI in a win at Auburn on May 7. He lined an RBI single in the fifth inning to cap a three-run rally, and he launched a two-out, three-run homer in the seventh inning to seal the victory.
