Softball’s Hill Named First Team Academic All-America

BATON ROUGE — Senior first baseman Stephanie Hill was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first team on Wednesday, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America

Hill, the first player in LSU softball history to be named a first-team Academic All-American, has now earned first-team honors in back-to-back seasons. She joins Tara Asbill in 2000 as the only other Tiger softball player to be named to the Academic All-America team, as Asbill earned third team honors in 2000.

A double major in political science and finance, Hill recorded a 3.89 cumulative grade point average. She graduated on Friday, May 19, but missed her graduation ceremonies while the softball team participated in NCAA Regional competition, which they won two days later to advance to NCAA Super Regionals.

The former walk-on from Harahan ranks in the top 10 in the Southeastern Conference in doubles and sacrifice flies and leads the league in fielding percentage by a first baseman. Having recorded 20 multiple-hit games, second most on the team, Hill has also recorded eight multiple-RBI games and knocked in game-winning runs in four Tiger games.

To be named to the Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore starter or significant reserve on her team with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. Hill was one of three SEC student-athletes named to the Academic All-America team, all of which earned first-team honors.
