PALO ALTO, Calif. — Ken Skupski of the LSU men’s tennis team begins play in the singles portion of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday when he faces Bryan Koniecko of Ohio State at noon CT at Stanford’s Tuabe Family Tennis Center.
Skupski, currently ranked No. 20 by the ITA, notched a 28-8 overall record this season, including going 13-5 versus ranked opponents.
Koniecko ranks at No. 33 in the country. He is 28-13 overall this season and 18-7 in dual matches.
Skupski also will begin competition in the doubles portion of the tournament slated to start Thursday. He and partner Mark Growcott, ranked 14th in the country as a duo, reached the finals of last year’s championship. The pair will face No. 35-ranked Nick Coutts and Zach Ganger of Utah in the opening round.
The Tiger duo is 22-7 on the season, while their Ute counterparts compiled a 16-5 record.
LSU’s winningest doubles team of 2006, Colt Gaston and Danny Bryan are currently the tournament’s No. 2 doubles alternate and are anxiously waiting to find out whether are not they will compete.
“All of the guys have been preparing extremely hard over the past week,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown commented. “I think this will be a great experience for all of them, especially with three of them returning next year.”
