BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team recently received a national letter of intent for the 2006-07 season from highly touted prospect Julien Gauthier of Repentigny, Quebec, Canada, head coach Jeff Brown announced.

Gauthier, a standout at Georges Vanier High School, was the 2005 Junior Tennis Player of the Year in Quebec and was the No. 1-ranked junior player in Canada.

Gauthier won a remarkable 13 national and provincial titles and was also a member of the Canadian Junior Davis Cup Team.

“We’re very excited about Julien,” said Brown. “He’s shown a lot of potential as a junior and I think he can step up and make an immediate impact next season.”

Gauthier will be needed next season to fill in the gaps left by LSU’s two departing seniors.

Current Tigers Ken Skupski and Mark Growcott will be in action Wednesday at the NCAA Championships in Palo Alto, Calif. Danny Bryan and Colt Gaston were named as alternates for the Doubles Championship and must wait to find out if they will play.
