BATON ROUGE — After defeating Louisiana-Lafayette, 5-4, on Sunday, the 15th-seeded LSU softball team will now travel to Tucson, Ariz., to face second-seeded Arizona in the NCAA Super Regionals this weekend at Hillenbrand Stadium.
The Tigers (54-12) will take on the Wildcats (47-9) in the best of three series beginning on Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) on ESPNU. The pair will meet again on Saturday at 8 p.m. (CT) on ESPNU with a third game to follow at 10:30 p.m. (CT) on ESPNU if necessary.
LSU went undefeated in NCAA Regional play in Baton Rouge to advance to the super regionals. The Tigers defeated Princeton, 5-0, before knocking off Louisiana-Lafayette twice, 7-6, in 10 innings on Saturday and 5-4 on championship Sunday.
Arizona also went undefeated in regional play to advance. The Wildcats topped Marist, 9-0, in six innings to open regional play. They then knocked off Ohio State, 6-3, before defeating Auburn, 4-2, to earn a berth in the NCAA Super Regionals.
LSU has won five of its last six games, with the lone loss to nationally ranked Tennessee in the SEC Tournament championship game. Arizona has won 13 in a row after an 8-2 loss to UCLA on April 28. The winner of the NCAA Super Regional will advance to play the winner of the Oregon State/California Super Regional in the Women’s College World Series beginning on June 1.
