OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — LSU softball center fielder Leslie Klein has been selected to participate in the 2006 World University Games Team Selection Camp from June 9-12.
The junior was one of approximately 40 student-athletes from different universities selected to participate in the four-day camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. The 2006 World University Games Team will be selected from the participants in the camp and those athletes participating in the National team Camp.
Seventeen athletes will officially be named to the World University Games team, which will be held in Taiwan between July 12 and July 24. In addition, the team will compete in exhibition games against the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch League in Chicago between July 25 and July 30.
A two-time first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection, Klein was a Top 25 Finalist for USA Softball National Player of the Year this season. In addition, she was named an All-American as a freshman in 2004.
This year, the Sunrise, Fla., native ranks in the top 10 in the league in batting average, slugging percentage, runs scored, hits, RBIs, doubles, triples, total bases and stolen bases this season. She recorded a team-best 12-game hitting streak during the year, which is tied for seventh longest in LSU history.
