Softball’s Hill Named to Academic All-District Team

ATHENS, Ga. — Senior first baseman Stephanie Hill was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI First Team on Thursday, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

To be nominated for the Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore starter or significant reserve on her team with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. District VI represents student-athletes in the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

Hill earned the honor for the third straight year, after being named to the Academic All-District first-team the last two seasons and first-team Academic All-American last year. A double major in political science and finance, Hill carries a 3.89 cumulative grade point average.

A finalist for the prestigious H. Boyd McWhorter SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Harahan native is a 2006 team captain and was a member of the 2005 Easton All-America team. Hill currently leads the conference in fielding percentage by a first baseman and ranks 18th in the SEC in batting average. In addition, she is tied for third in the SEC in doubles and is tied for fourth in sacrifice flies.

A former walk-on, Hill ranks in the top 10 in LSU history in career hits, doubles, RBIs and home runs. This season, she is tied for the eighth most single-season doubles in school history.

She will now be added to the Academic All-America ballot, which will be announced on May 31.
