BATON ROUGE — LSU student-athlete Kristen Hobbs was named to the third annual Southeastern Conference Softball Good Works Team, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The junior from Royal Palm Beach, Fla., is a representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where she is involved in many community service projects. She helped coordinate a student-athlete talent show that raised money for the LSU Student-Athlete Relief Fund and the catch 22 for Blue Foundation. The profits from the show were used to help families affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita that ravaged south Louisiana last fall.
In addition, the catcher helps with the annual Christmas Toy Drive, which provides underprivileged children with gifts for the holidays through Catholic Community Services. Hobbs also helps to organize the annual Halloween BOOzar in October, which allows children the opportunity to trick-or-treat in a safe environment, while meeting and participating in activities with LSU student-athletes from all sports.
The SEC sponsors Good Works Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Good Works Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community with superior service efforts.
