BATON ROUGE — The 11th-ranked LSU softball team will begin the Southeastern Conference Tournament as the third seed against sixth-seeded Auburn on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (CT) at the Georgia Softball/Soccer Complex in Athens, Ga.

The Tigers (49-11, 22-8 SEC) earned the third seed after defeating No. 6 Tennessee on the final day of the regular season. No. 20 AU (34-19, 15-15 SEC) dropped two of its last three games to Ole Miss. If the Tigers defeat Auburn, they will play the winner of the Georgia-Arkansas game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. (CT). The championship game is on Sunday at noon (CT) and will be televised by Fox Sports.

This season, the SEC Tournament has gone to a single-elimination format. In all previous nine tournaments, the tournament has been a double-elimination format. LSU has advanced through the conference tournament into the championship game in six of the last seven seasons. The Tigers have won the SEC Tournament four times, including 1999, 2001, 2002 and 2004.

Earlier this season, LSU took two out of three from Auburn in the regular season in Tiger Park. The Fighting Tigers won the first two games, 4-0 and 6-5, but lost 1-0 in game three after leaving 13 on base.
