BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Lauren Castle and Northwestern State’s Amanda Glenn have been selected the Louisiana Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association on Monday.
Castle led LSU with a .412 batting average last week as the 10th-ranked Tigers went 4-2, including a three-game sweep of No. 24 Florida. Recording a hit in five of LSU’s six games, she scored three runs on the week and recorded five walks. She is currently tied for third in single-season walks in LSU history with 33, just five behind the school record.
In the second game against Florida with the Tigers trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Castle drew a one-out walk. Her pinch runner came around to score, sparking a four-run rally that gave LSU the 7-6 win. Earlier in the week against Arkansas, she scored the second run in a four-run rally in the top of the fifth inning that gave the Tigers the 4-3 come-from-behind victory.
Glenn earned all four decisions for the Lady Demons on the week, posting a 3-1 record. With a 0.24 earned run average in 29.2 innings, she recorded 37 strikeouts with only six walks while opponents hit just .130 against her. The junior allowed only one earned run on the week in three complete games, including a two-hit shutout at Sam Houston in a Southland Conference tournament berth clinching series.
In 22 innings at Sam Houston, she recorded a 0.00 earned run average with 24 strikeouts and five walks in two complete games, including a shutout victory. In a must-win game against the Bearkats on Sunday, she allowed only three hits in a complete-game win.
This was the first Louisiana Player of the Week honor for Castle this season and the second for LSU. It marked the first Louisiana Pitcher of the Week honor for Glenn and the first for LSU.
