BATON ROUGE — Junior Garrett Runion has been named to the third-annual Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf Good Works Team for the second time in his career, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Runion is one of 10 student-athletes named to the team, which includes a member from each school except Arkansas and Florida. The Orlando, Fla., native is a member of the LSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and most recently participated in the Boy Scouts Annual Cubs on Campus event where he helped organize a cookout for local boy scouts.
Runion spoke to students at Bakerfield Elementary School about the benefits of being drug free during the school’s Red Ribbon Campaign in the fall and helped coordinate the annual Halloween BOOzar and Christmas Toy Drive for the men’s golf team.
The Halloween BOOzar gives local children the opportunity to trick-or-treat and participate in activities with LSU student-athletes, while the Christmas Toy Drive provides student-athletes the opportunity to raise money for clothes and presents to give to a needy child sponsored by their respective teams.
The SEC sponsors Good Works Teams for all 20 league sanctioned sports as each looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their respective community with superior service efforts.
