EVANS, Ga. — Junior Chris Wells followed his 2-over par 74 in the second round with a matching 74 in the final round Sunday to finish in a tie for 48th place in the Administaf Augusta State Invitational at Champions Retreat Golf Club.

Wells recorded three birdies on his round and finished with an even-par 36 on the back nine Sunday to finish the tournament tied with four other golfers at 8-over 224.

Senior Andrew Lanahan finished two strokes behind Wells in a tie for 58th with a 10-over 226, and sophomore Beck Troutman finished in a tie for 62nd with an 11-over 227. True freshman Jarrod Barsamian finished the tournament in 70th, while senior Aaron Smith finished tied for 82nd.

The Tigers finished the tournament in 15th place in the team standings after following matching scores of 13-over 301 in the first two rounds with an 18-over 306 in the final round for a three-round total of 44-over 908.

Coastal Carolina held on to its five-stroke lead heading into the final round to capture the team title by five strokes over South Carolina-Aiken with a three-round score of 10-under 854. But it was USC-Aiken’s Scott Brown who claimed medalist honors over Coastal Carolina’s Dustin Johnson by a single shot with a total of 9-under 207.

The Tigers will travel to Augusta, Ga., on Monday to follow former LSU All-American David Toms during his practice round at Augusta National Golf Club in preparation for The Masters before returning to Baton Rouge. LSU returns to action April 21-23 in the 2006 Southeastern Conference Men’s Golf Championships at Sea Island Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga.
