BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Ken Skupski was named first-team All Southeastern Conference and teammates Danny Bryan and Colt Gaston received second-team doubles honors, the league office announced Wednesday.
It is the third year in a row that Skupski has received first-team All-SEC singles honors. This season the Liverpool, England native posted a 27-9 overall mark, including a 17-6 dual match record as the Tigers’ No. 1 singles player. Skupski went 8-3 in conference play and is currently ranked 22nd in the nation by the ITA.
Danny Bryan and Colt Gaston were named second-team in doubles. Together the duo posted a 9-1 SEC doubles record and led the team in doubles wins with 24. The pair is currently ranked No. 30 in the ITA doubles poll.
Bryan developed in to a consistent performer for LSU in singles as well. The Tiger captain posted a 7-4 SEC record while moving between the No 3 and 4 singles positions. Bryan garnered SEC Player of the Week honors following his win over Florida’s Chris Brandi, which clinched LSU’s victory over No. 8 Florida.
Gaston battled back from a midseason ankle injury perform well during the Tigers’ conference run. The 6-5 sophomore picked up a big win over Ole Miss’s 27th-ranked Eric Claesson to help LSU beat eighth-ranked Ole Miss 4-3. That match earned Gaston an SEC Player of the Week award as well.
The 20th-ranked Tigers begin play Thursday at the SEC Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala. LSU will face 12th-seeded Missisippi State in the opening round at 2 p.m.
