Gaston Named SEC Tennis Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU men’s tennis sophomore Colt Gaston was named SEC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week the SEC office announced late Wednesday night.

Gaston went undefeated last weekend in both singles and doubles. Gaston and doubles partner Danny Bryan were the first pair off the court in both matches. The tandem is now on a six match-winning streak.

Gaston really earned his stripes against No. 8-ranked Ole Miss on Friday when he clinched the match for the Tigers with a straight set win over 40th-ranked Eric Claesson. The Rome, Georgia native rallied Sunday after dropping the first set to South Carolina’s Pierre Mouillon, taking the match in three sets and helping LSU to a 7-0 win.

Gaston’s play was good enough to move the 6-5 sophomore into the singles rankings at No. 100. Gaston is now one of only two Tigers ranked in both the singles and doubles polls, ranking 25th with Bryan in doubles.

Gaston is the second Tiger in a row to receive the Player of the Week award from the league office. Last week it was his doubles mate Bryan who took home the honor.

LSU will tour the state of Alabama for a pair of matches this weekend. The Tigers will face Alabama on Friday at 5 p.m. and Auburn Sunday at 1 p.m.
