AUGUSTA, Ga. — Senior Andrew Lanahan posted scores of even-par 72 and 4-over 76 in the first and second rounds Saturday to lead the LSU men’s golf team on the first day of the Administaff Augusta State Invitational at Champions Retreat Golf Club.
Lanahan is the low Tiger by two shots as the Jacksonville, Fla., native currently sits in a tie for 43rd place at 4-over 148 heading into Sunday’s final round.
Junior Chris Wells carded rounds of 76 and 74 to finish the day in a 54th-place tie at 6-over 150 and is followed closely behind by true freshman Jarrod Barsamian, who posted rounds of 75 and 76 to tie for 59th. Sophomore Beck Troutman is currently tied for 65th, while senior Aaron Smith is in 82nd.
The Tigers enter the final round in 15th place in the team standings after posting rounds 301 and 300 in the first two rounds for a two-round total of 25-over 601.
Coastal Carolina held a one-stroke lead going into the second round but extended that margin to six strokes over second-place Minnesota after firing scores of 6-under 282 and 5-under 283 for a total of 11-under 565. Clemson and South Carolina-Aiken are third and fourth, respectively, while Ole Miss and UCLA are each tied for fifth.
A trio of players from Coastal Carolina find themselves in the top 10 of the individual standings led by Dustin Johnson, who is tied for the top spot with Scott Brown of USC-Aiken at 5-under 139. Coastal Carolina’s Joachim Fourquet is one stroke back in second place, while teammate Zack Byrd is tied for 10th at 1-under 143.
The Tigers are paired with Georgia Southern and Southeastern Conference rival Tennessee in Sunday’s final round and will tee off from the 10th tee beginning at 8:40 a.m. CDT. Live scoring of the tournament’s final day is provided by www.golfstat.com.
