STARKVILLE, Miss. — The LSU women’s tennis team looks to cap the weekend with a win as it travels to face Mississippi State at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Lady Tigers (8-9, 0-7 Southeastern Conference) suffered another tough loss Friday at Ole Miss, increasing their losing skid to four matches.

“We need a win here,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “This is tough and it’s frustrating, but times like this are what define character. Are we going to pack it in or fight through it? We need to fight through this.”

The Lady Bulldogs (3-11, 1-6 SEC) also dropped their Friday match, falling 6-1 at Arkansas.

“Mississippi State is obviously a very decent team,” Minnis said. “But if we come out with the right attitude and focus, we have a chance for this match to go in our favor.”

LSU faced this Mississippi State squad twice last year. The first contest resulted in a 4-3 Lady Bulldogs victory in Baton Rouge.

The teams met again in the first round of the SEC Tournament, with MSU grinding out a another 4-3 win in a match that lasted seven hours and went back on forth on nearly every court.

“I think this team remembers that match because it was heartbreaking,” Minnis said. “I hope that adds fire to this match that can give us that edge we’ve yet to experience.”

Despite the Lady Bulldogs capturing wins in the last two outings, LSU still leads the all-time series with MSU, 20-8.

This match marks the final conference road meeting for LSU, which returns to Baton Rouge to take on Alabama and Auburn next weekend.
