BATON ROUGE — One day after earning their third-straight trip to the Women’s Final Four, the LSU Lady Tigers (31-3) learned their opponent for the second game of the national semifinals in Boston: the Duke Blue Devils.
Duke (30-3), the No. 1 seed in the Bridgeport Regional, defeated No. 2-seeded Connecticut, 63-61, in overtime on Tuesday evening.
The teams will meet after the 6 p.m. CT semifinal game between No. 1-seeded North Carolina (33-1) out of the Cleveland Regional — 75-63 winners over Tennessee on Tuesday — and No. 2-seeded Maryland (32-4) out of the Albuquerque Regional.
The Atlantic Coast Conference placed three teams in the Women’s Final Four, marking the first time that a single conference had done so in the women’s tournament. The Big East accomplished the feat in the men’s tournament in 1985, with Villanova, St. John’s and Georgetown.
Tipoff for the LSU-Duke game is scheduled for 30 minutes following game 1, or approximately 8:30 p.m. CT.
