AWENDAW, S.C. — Junior Chris Wells posted a 2-over par 73 and sophomore Beck Troutman carded a 3-over 74 to lead the LSU men’s golf team in the first round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Club.
Wells sits in a tie for 25th, while Troutman finds himself in a tie for 30th heading into Monday’s second round. Senior Aaron Smith posted a round of 4-over par 75 in his first action since the last tournament of the fall season and is tied for 41st. Senior Andrew Lanahan and sophomore Brian Noonan are each in a tie for 65th after carding rounds of 7-over 78.
The Tigers are in 15th place in the team competition heading into the second round after recording a team score 16-over 300.
First-round leader Wake Forest fired a tournament record 9-under 275 on Sunday to lead South Carolina by four strokes, while North Carolina is 13 strokes back in third place with a 4-over 288. Central Florida and defending champion Kentucky round out the top five in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Eirik Tage Johnasen of South Carolina and Doug Manchester of Wake Forest are tied for the lead in the individual standings after firing matching 4-under 67s. Wake Forest’s Webb Simpson is in third place with a 3-under 68, while fellow Demon Deacon Kyle Reifers and Florida State’s Jonas Blixt round out the top five as each are tied for fourth at 2-under 69.
The Tigers are paired with Alabama and N.C. State in the second round and will tee off from the 10th tee beginning at 9 a.m. CST. Live updates at the conclusion of nine holes will be provided by www.golfstat.com.
