Men’s Tennis Returns to SEC Play Against South Carolina

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team will get back into conference play Friday when it welcomes South Carolina to W. T. Robinson Tennis Stadium at 2 p.m.

The Tigers (9-6, 2-2 SEC) are hoping for better weather conditions then they have had in their past two contests which were rained out and had to be postponed.  With tomorrow’s forecast predicting no chance of rain, LSU should be able to complete its first match in almost two weeks.

South Carolina (9-9, 0-4 SEC) is still searching for its first league victory. The Gamecocks have been dealing with injury problems throughout the season, but LSU head coach Jeff Brown knows his team has a dangerous opponent in front of it.

“When they’re healthy they can knock off anybody in the SEC,” said Brown. “This is a very tough opponent and we’re not going to take them lightly.”

South Carolina leads the all-time series with LSU, 18-6, and has won four of the last five over the Tigers, including a, 4-3, win last year in Columbia.

Friday’s contest will feature a good match up at the No. 1 doubles position, where LSU’s 12th-ranked Ken Skupski and Mark Growcott are slated to battle the Gamecock’s Geraldo Knorr and Yevgeny Supeko, who are at No. 20 in the latest doubles poll.

LSU will continue its home stand Sunday, hosting No. 8 Florida at 1 p.m.
