BATON ROUGE — The latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll boded well for the LSU men’s tennis team, as the Tigers moved up to 19th in the national rankings.
LSU (9-6, 2-2 SEC) climbed six spots from their No. 25 position a week ago and, all of the team’s previously ranked players moved up in both the singles and doubles rankings.
Junior Ken Skupski remained LSU’s lone ranked singles player, but jumped from 38th to 22nd. The Liverpool, England native also moved up in the doubles rankings, where he and partner Mark Growcott are now the No. 12 pair in the country.
The Tigers’ No. 2 doubles tandem of sophomore Colt Gaston and junior Danny Bryan made the biggest move, leaping from No. 39 to No. 14. The duo has posted an 18-6 record so far this season and leads the team in doubles wins.
The SEC was well represented in the rankings. Undefeated Georgia remained in the No. 1 spot, while Florida moved back into the top-10 at No. 8. The league placed a total of six teams in the top-25.
LSU will be back in action this weekend when it hosts South Carolina at 2 p.m. Friday and Florida at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Tigers’ match against UL-Lafayette which was postponed Monday due to rain has now been rescheduled for April 5 at 2 p.m.
