Track & Field Sends Throwers to Louisiana Classics

BATON ROUGE — The LSU track and field team will send a small, select group of throwers to the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La., this Saturday as it kicks off the 2006 outdoor season at Cajun Track.

The meet, which features 12 teams, including 11 from the Pelican state, will begin at 11 a.m. with the field events and continue at 11:30 a.m. with the running events.

LSU’s javelin throwers will get their first opportunity of the season to see competitive action as Tigers Pat Perrien and Chad Radgowski and Lady Tigers Anna Lyons and Julie Bertrand are all scheduled to compete.

Perrien was a NCAA regional qualifier in the javelin a year ago as a junior, while Radgowski, a freshman from Liberty, Penn., comes to the Tigers as a high school All-American and regional champion in the event.

Lyons, another highly touted freshman javelin thrower, comes to LSU from Ruston High School where she was a two-time Louisiana 5A state champion. Bertrand has competed for the Lady Tigers in the multi-events each of the last two seasons.

In addition, sophomores Patrick Frischhertz and Alexis Lewis are each scheduled to make their season debuts in the discus.

Following the Louisiana Classics, LSU returns home to host the LSU Relays, March 23-25, at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
