BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Dani Hofer and Louisiana-Monroe’s Lindsay Schafer have been selected the Louisiana Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Tuesday.

Hofer, a freshman right-hander for the nationally ranked Tigers, went 2-0 on the week with a pair of wins over Ole Miss. Posting a 0.00 earned run average, she allowed only one unearned run on the week. In her first appearance, she allowed only one hit until the bottom of the fifth inning and gave up one unearned run.

In her final appearance, she recorded her third complete-game shutout of the season. In five innings, she allowed only four runners to reach scoring position in the game and gave up only five hits and one walk.

Shafer, a senior third baseman, was named the Alabama Central Credit Union Bulldog Bash Tournament Most Valuable Player last weekend after hitting .471 in five games as ULM went 3-2. The Aeropostale/Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, she also nailed four home runs with 11 RBIs and four runs scored.

Against Samford, she went 3-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs and two runs scored. In addition, she went 2-for-4 against Sienna with a home run, 2 RBIs and one run scored. She recorded a hit in all five games on the week, including a pair of multiple-hit games and five multiple-RBI games.

These are the first Louisiana Hitter/Pitcher of the Week awards this season. The LSWA will announce the weekly honors on Monday afternoons each week from now until the completion of the 2006 season.
