BATON ROUGE — LSU’s gymnastics team is ranked No. 7 in the country for a second straight week with a regional qualifying score of 195.955, according to the latest national rankings released Monday.
The standings’ top two remained unchanged from a week ago with Georgia (196.965) holding down the No. 1 position and the Tigers’ upcoming opponent, Florida (196.170), at No. 2. Alabama (196.230), Iowa State (196.225) and Oklahoma (196.210) each moved up one spot to round out the top five.
LSU held on to its top-15 rankings on each of the four individual events, coming in at No. 4 on the floor, No. 11 on both the bars (48.955) and vault (49.090) and No. 15 on the beam (48.745) this week.
Individually, the Tigers have four athletes ranked among the top 25.
Junior Kelly Phelan is the country’s top-ranked floor worker for a second straight week with a RQS of 9.910. She is also listed at No. 22 in the all-around (39.135).
Joining Phelan in the all-around ranked is senior April Burkholder. She is seventh this week while maintaining a RQS of 39.345. Burkholder is also ranked on the two of the four individual events, coming in at No. 7 on the floor (9.895) and No. 17 on the vault (9.870).
In addition, senior Terin Martinjak is ranked 21st on the floor exercise with her RQS (9.8550 and Lisa Rennie is listed at No. 23 on the bars (9.850).
The Tigers return to action this Friday when they travel to No. 2 Florida for a 6 p.m. (CT) tri-meet with the Gators and No. 16 Penn State at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.
