ATHENS, Ga. — The LSU women’s tennis team will finish off its first weekend of Southeastern Conference action Sunday in its noon CT match-up with No. 23 Georgia at Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Lady Tigers dropped their SEC-opener to Tennessee on Friday, 7-0, and carry a 7-2 (0-1 SEC) mark into Athens.
“Georgia is always a really tough team,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “We’re looking to improve upon some things from our last match and it will take nothing but our best effort to do so.”
Georgia holds a 4-5 record heading into Sunday’s contest, fresh off a 5-1 defeat of Arkansas on Friday in Athens.
All five of Georgia’s losses this year have come to teams currently ranked in the ITA’s Top 25. Two of its three wins are over ranked teams, including Arkansas (No. 59) and William & Mary (No. 18).
The Bulldogs are 4-1 in matches held in Athens this year, their lone home loss coming in 4-3 fashion to then-No. 26 Clemson.
Georgia has dominated the all-time series with LSU, winning 27 of the 28 overall meetings. The Lady Tigers last recorded a 6-3 win over the Bulldogs in 1985.
The 23rd-ranked Bulldogs place two singles competitors and two doubles tandems in the latest ITA rankings. Natalie Frazier is 30th and Shadisha Robinson 45th in singles, while Robinson ranks at No. 9 in the nation with doubles partner Caroline Basu and Evgenia Subbotina and Darya Ivanov list at No. 14 as a pair.
LSU’s only ranked individuals, the doubles team of Lauren Seaman and Tiffany Tucker at No. 35, will not compete at Georgia as Seaman is still out with an injury. However, seniors Camila Caliari and Marina Chiarelli will look to improve upon singles dual match records of 7-2 that lead the team.
