BATON ROUGE — LSU senior outfielder Bruce Sprowl was named SEC Player of the Week Monday by the league office after leading the Tigers to four consecutive victories from Feb. 21-26.

Meanwhile, the Tigers — winners of eight straight games — moved from 15th to eighth in this week’s Collegiate Baseball magazine poll, and from 19th to 17th in the Baseball America poll.

Sprowl batted .533 (8-for-15) in the Tigers’ four victories last week, collecting two doubles, two triples, six RBI and three runs. He also walked twice, contributed a sacrifice fly and posted a .556 on-base percentage.

Sprowl was 6-for-10 in last weekend’s series versus Temple with two doubles, two triples and five RBI. He is LSU’s leading hitter this season, batting .429 (18-for-42) on the year with three doubles, two triples, eight RBI and 11 runs.

LSU (10-1) returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when the Tigers play host to Louisiana-Monroe (0-9) in Alex Box Stadium. The game will be televised live by Cox Sports Television (Cable Ch. 37 in Baton Rouge).
