BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team’s match scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. against Lamar has been moved to Sunday at 1 p.m. because of the predicted chance of rain.
This is the fifth time this season the Lady Tigers have had to reschedule or postpone matches because of weather conditions.
“It’s very tough to have to deal with the effects of weather on your season like we have this year,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “We just have to stay focused and not let the uncertainty affect our play.”
The Lady Tigers, fresh off a 5-2 road win at Florida State on Wednesday, look to improve upon their 5-1 start in the first of two matches they have left before jumping into conference action.
“We’re playing some really good tennis right now,” Minnis said. “Lamar is a good team and we’re expecting a hard-fought match Sunday, so we just have to play the way we are capable of.”
The Lady Tigers hold the No. 43 ranking in the country after their first six matches. They earned wins over in-state foes Southern, Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana Tech to open the season and more recently over Rice and Florida State.
The Cardinals enter the contest with a 4-2 record on the year. Their two losses both came to teams LSU has defeated this season in Rice and Louisiana-Lafayette.
LSU and Lamar have not met since 1995, when LSU swept the Cardinals, 9-0, with the old scoring system. The Lady Tigers are 10-2 in the all-time series.
Lamar’s team failed to make the latest rankings, however its No. 1 doubles team of Andrea Martinez and Tara Shelander lists at No. 36, one spot above LSU’s Seaman and Tucker. The LSU duo entered the rankings this week for the first time since the preseason at No. 37.
Martinez and Shelander are 5-1 in doubles play this season, also recording a win over Rice’s then-No. 30 duo of Blair DiSesa and Alanna Rodger as the LSU pair did.
