Women’s Tennis Takes to the Road, Faces Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The LSU women’s tennis team returns to action Wednesday at 3 p.m. CT in its first road contest of the year at Florida State.

The Lady Tigers (4-1) are coming off a week with no matches after a tough loss to Texas A&M the previous Saturday.

“Hopefully we come out and play with a lot more fire and intensity than we did in our last match,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “We expect nothing but a hard-fought match from a team like Florida State.”

Florida State enters the contest with a 6-1 record, its lone loss in the form of a 7-0 sweep at the hands of No. 2 Florida in Gainesville.

The new ITA rankings for this week do not come out until Wednesday, but in the previous rankings the Seminoles list at No. 56. LSU is No. 42 in that same poll.

The Lady Tigers hold the advantage over the Seminoles in the all-time series by one match, 7-6. Last year’s scheduled match in Baton Rouge was rained out and never rescheduled. In 2004, the Lady Tigers came out with the 4-3 win in Talahassee.

This has been a very competitive match-up recently, as the past eight contests were decided by one point.

“Florida State is always a tough match,” Minnis said. “We have battles with them every year. They’re a team that consistently makes the NCAA Tournament, and we have to come out ready to play.”
