Eight LSU Teams Ranked in Top 25; Three in Top 5

BATON ROUGE — With men’s basketball and softball jumping into the national rankings this week, LSU now has eight teams ranked among the top 25 teams in the nation, including the No. 1 ranked men’s track and field squad and the No. 2 ranked women’s basketball team.

In all, LSU currently has three teams among the top five in the nation in their respective rankings. Joining the men’s track and field team and the women’s basketball team in the top five is the women’s track and field squad, who is ranked No. 4 this week.

The men’s track and field team leaped to No. 1 in the nation in this week’s Coaches poll following consecutive weeks of outstanding performances at the New Balance Invitational and the Tyson Invitational.

The Lady Tigers are ranked No. 2 this week after beating Tennessee in Knoxville and then following that with a win over Georgia at the Maravich Center last week. The Lady Tigers are in first place in the league standings and have won a school-record 24 straight regular season SEC games. LSU is 22-1 overall as they head into the final two weeks of the regular season. 

The LSU men’s basketball team returned to the polls this week, coming in at No. 25 in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches Polls. The Tigers are currently in first place in the Southeastern Conference Western Division with an 8-2 league record. John Brady‘s Tigers are 16-7 overall and stand just one game behind Tennessee in the overall league standings. 

D-D Breaux‘s gymnastics team is ranked No. 13 in the nation heading into Friday’s meet against Auburn. The Tigers are 8-4 overall and they are coming off their second-best outing of the year, scoring a 195.875 against 18th-ranked Kentucky last week.

The Tiger baseball team is off to a 3-1 start following last night’s 15-3 win over Centenary at Alex Box Stadium. LSU is ranked No. 16 in the Collegiate Baseball poll and No. 17 in the National College Baseball Writer’s rankings.

Jeff Brown‘s men’s tennis team is ranked No. 15 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll after suffering its first loss of the season on Sunday against Ohio State. The men’s tennis team has been ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation this year.

The LSU softball team returned to the top 25 this week, coming in at No. 25 in the ESPN/USA Softball poll. The Tigers are off to a 4-0 start, sweeping through last week’s Purple and Gold Challenge in Baton Rouge. Last week, the Tigers outscored their opponents 36-1 in four games.
