Men’s Tennis Drops to No. 15 in National Rankings

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team fell to No. 15 in the latest poll released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.

LSU split its weekend road matches, besting Michigan 5-2 Friday before suffering its first defeat of the season against Ohio State on Sunday 6-1.

Around the SEC, Florida, Georgia and Ole Miss remained No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 respectively, while South Carolina moved into the top-10 at the 10th spot. The SEC currently boasts eight teams in the top-20.

Individual rankings will not be released again until Feb. 21. The Tigers currently have one ranked singles player and two ranked doubles teams.

No. 66-ranked junior Ken Skupski continued his winning ways this weekend defeating two top-100 opponents and extending his singles winning streak to 15 matches. Those wins combined with his victory at the SEC Coaches Indoor Championship should propel Skupski up in the rankings next Tuesday.

Both of the Tigers’ ranked doubles pairs, 10th-ranked Skupski and Mark Growcott and the nation’s No. 24 team of Danny Bryan and Colt Gaston, currently hold 3-1 records.

LSU will be one of 16 teams competing in the ITA National Team Indoor Tournament in Seattle this weekend. The Tigers received the tournaments No. 10 seed and will face seventh-seeded UCLA on Friday at 4:30 p.m. CST.
