BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer signing class is making its case to be the top class in the Southeastern Conference for 2006 as four future Tigers were named Soccer Buzz Top 75 Recruits as announced by the publication Tuesday.
LSU is the only program in the SEC to place a signee on the list as incoming freshmen Katherine Lagow, Michelle Makasini, Malorie Rutledge and Rachel Yepez were honored with this distinction.
“I’m certainly proud of each of these four young ladies for receiving such a well-deserved honor,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “They have worked very hard throughout their high school and club careers to be the best players they can possibly be, and they deserve this type of recognition.”
Four additional signees are ranked among the top 150 players in the country for the Class of 2006 as Nikki Bush, Amanda Carreno and Chelsea Potts have been named Soccer Buzz Top 100 Recruits and Kathleen Walsh is a Soccer Buzz Top 150 Recruit.
Only LSU and perennial powerhouse North Carolina can claim as many as eight signees ranked among the top 150 players in the country.
“As a staff we felt like we signed one of the top classes not only in the SEC, but in the rest of the country as well,” Lee said. “This group of incoming freshmen will provide a solid foundation for the long-term success of the program and give fans something exciting to watch when they see them play. Having our signees rated among the very best players in the country is certainly evidence of that.”
