BATON ROUGE — LSU centerfielder Jarred Bogany was named Monday as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week by the league office.
Bogany, a product of George Bush High School in Houston, enjoyed a magnificent collegiate debut, leading LSU to a series victory last weekend over North Florida.
Bogany hit .727 (8-for-11) in the three-game series with two doubles, two RBI, two runs and one stolen base. He also made a spectacular catch in Game 1 to rob a UNF batter of an extra-base hit.
Bogany was the 15th round selection of the Pittsburgh Pirates in last summer’s Major League draft.
LSU (2-1), ranked No. 16 this week by Collegiate Baseball magazine, returns to action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when the Tigers play host to Centenary (5-1) in Alex Box Stadium.
