BATON ROUGE — Despite posting the second-highest score of the season in a win over Kentucky last week, the LSU gymnastics team remained at No. 13 in the country this week with a season average of 194.946.
The nation’s top five remains unchanged from a week ago as Georgia sits in the No. 1 position for a fifth straight week with a season average of 196.561. Utah (196.004) follows at No. 2, while Alabama (195.929), Michigan (195.775) and Florida (195.608) round out the top five.
The Tigers did improve their national rankings on two of the four individual events, moving up one spot to No. 11 on the floor (48.833) and one position to No. 15 on the beam (48.350). In addition, LSU remained at No. 10 on the vault (48.967) for a second straight week and fell one spot to No. 12 on the bars (48.796).
Two Tigers, senior April Burkholder and junior Nicki Butler, are listed among the individual national rankings.
Burkholder jumped three spots to No. 6 in the all-around standings with her 39.275 season average. In addition she leapt to fourth in the floor rankings (9.875) and eighth in the vault standings (9.870).
Butler made a return to the vault rankings after spending three week outside the top 25. She re-enters the standings at No. 23 with a season average of 9.840.
The Tigers return to action this Friday when they host No. 17 Auburn in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, beginning at 7 p.m.
