BATON ROUGE — The LSU baseball team’s season opener against North Florida was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning due to heavy rains in the Baton Rouge area. The game will resume at noon on Saturday, followed by another nine-inning contest 30 minutes after the completion of Game 1.
Fans are reminded to bring their Game 1 ticket stubs to be allowed into the conclusion. The stands will then be cleared following the completion of Game 1. Fans with a Game 2 ticket will then be allowed in.
The doubleheader will be broadcast in the Baton Rouge area only (107.3 FM) due to the men’s basketball game at Florida beginning at noon CT. Live video and audio is also available to members of the Geaux Zone powered by USAgencies on www.LSUsports.net starting at 11:55 a.m.
The Tigers held a 7-0 lead with runners on first and third when the game was called at 7:46 p.m.
LSU broke open a scoreless tie with a seven-run fourth. Quinn Stewart started the barrage with a RBI single scoring Will Harris who reached on a double to start the frame.
Two defensive miscues by the Ospreys, including a throwing error by pitcher Jacob Dixon brought home Michael Hollander.
With the Tigers leading 4-0, Jarred Bogany drove in a run on his third single of the game followed by a bases clearing two-run double from J.T. Wise.
Dixon was lifted just before the rains came after surrendering six runs on 11 hits in 3.1 innings of work.
Meanwhile, LSU starter Clay Dirks cruised through the first four innings limiting UNF to two hits on 60 pitches. The senior racked up six strikeouts, two shy of his career-high.
