BATON ROUGE — The first day of the LSU Purple & Gold Challenge was cancelled due to rain on Friday and will resume play on Saturday before concluding tournament play on Sunday.
The Purple & Gold Challenge will now go to a round robin format with each of the five teams playing four games.
In the first game of the day on Friday, Stephen F. Austin led South Dakota State, 1-0, in the bottom of the first inning before play was postponed. The tournament will resume with the conclusion of the SFA-SDSU game beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Following the Stephen F. Austin-South Dakota State game, Arkansas-Pine Bluff will face Northwestern State at 11:15 a.m. The Lady Demons will then take on SDSU at 1:30 p.m. before LSU faces SFA at 3:45 and UAPB at 6 p.m.
On Sunday, the tournament will begin play at 9 a.m. with Arkansas-Pine Bluff taking on Stephen F. Austin. The Ladyjacks will then face NSU at 11:15 a.m. before UAPB faces South Dakota State at 1:30 p.m. The Tigers will conclude the tournament with games against Northwestern State at 3:45 p.m. and South Dakota State at 6 p.m.
