EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — Former LSU swimmer Christian Clausen qualified for the 50-meter, 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke finals over the weekend at the FINA World Cup in East Meadow, N.Y.
Clausen placed fourth in the 50-meter breaststroke finals, swimming a time of 27.83. U.S. Olympian Brendan Hansen took second at 27.33. Clausen improved on his seventh-place showing in the preliminary heat.
Clausen finished fifth in the 100-meter (1:00.53) and sixth in the 200-meter (2:14.39).
The FINA Swimming World Cup Series promotes the best swimmers in the world competing on five continents for a three-month stretch.
Clausen, a native of Trelleborg, Sweden, earned three All-America honors in two seasons at LSU from 2003-05. Last season, Clausen joined a list of 20 Tiger swimmers who became All-Americans three or more times during their careers with a 13th-place showing in the 200-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Championships.
