BATON ROUGE — Following a win at Arkansas the Tiger gymnastics team improved their season average by .100 points to 194.425 but still dropped three spots to No. 14 in the latest national ranking released Monday.
The Tigers’ upcoming opponent, Georgia, tops the standings for a third straight week. The Gym Dogs are averaging a 196.169 this season. Rounding out the top five are Utah (195.862), Alabama (195.587) Michigan (195.467) and Florida (195.175).
LSU remains ranked among the top 20 on each of the four individual events. The Tigers jumped three spots to No. 8 on the vault (49.175) and improved one position to No. 13 on the bars (48.675). In addition, LSU slipped three spots to No. 17 on the beam (48.144) and five positions to No. 14 on the floor (48.633).
Individually, LSU senior April Burkholder is the only Tiger ranked among the top 25. The nine-time All-American improved one spot to No. 7 in the all-around (39.192) and held steady at No. 6 on the vault (9.875) and No. 9 on the floor (9.858).
The Tigers return to competition this Saturday when they travel to Athens, Ga., for dual meet with defending SEC and NCAA champions, Georgia, at 3 p.m.
