BATON ROUGE — After having its opening weekend rained out, the LSU women’s tennis team will play the first matches of its regular season Saturday and Sunday versus in-state rivals Southern, Louisiana Tech and UL-Lafayette at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
Saturday will be 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. contests with Southern and Louisiana Tech, respectively, while the Lady Tigers will make up last Saturday’s rainout with ULL at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
“We’re just ready to play,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “The girls have been practicing hard and they’re ready to get the season going and play an actual match and hopefully get off to a good start.”
The Lady Tigers have seen a good deal of success when facing all three programs, going a combined 39-0 against them without recording a single loss. Of those 39 wins, 26 have been shutouts.
Despite that success, Minnis said the team needs to prepare like they would for any opponent.
“We just need to focus on ourselves and make sure we come out and play to the best of our ability,” he commented. “We have to make sure that we play every team as hard as we can, and then we should be in pretty good shape.”
These matches mark the first of a seven-match homestand for the Lady Tigers in which they will also play Rice, Houston, Texas A&M and TCU.
