BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Darrel Mitchell and Seimone Augustus were named the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, it was announced on Wednesday.
Mitchell, a 5-11 senior guard for the Tigers, averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists in LSU’s two victories during the week. He poured in 15 points and grabbed five rebounds in the 71-57 win at Mississippi State and then added 19 points and seven boards in the 68-57 win over Alabama.
Augustus, a 6-1 senior guard for the Lady Tigers, led LSU to a pair of conference victories, including hitting the game-winning 15-foot jumper shot with 14 seconds remaining in Sunday’s 65-64 win at No. 13 Georgia. She finished that game with 24 points on 10-12 shooting from the floor and four free throws. Two of her free throws game with 1:21 to aid the come-from-behind victory. Earlier in the week, Augustus led LSU with 20 points in a home victory over Alabama.
The LSWA selects a weekly Player of the Week for men’s and women’s basketball from a list of nominations submitted by the state schools.
