BATON ROUGE — Softball infielder Tayl’r Hollis from Lafayette, La., transferred to LSU from Oklahoma and enrolled in classes at the university on Tuesday as the spring semester began.
Hollis, who started 56 of 59 games for the Sooners last season, was not granted her release from Oklahoma and will therefore sit out the 2006 season and begin playing for the Tigers in 2007 with two years of eligibility remaining.
A three-time Louisiana all-state selection at St. Thomas More High School in Lafayette, she led the Cougars to Class 4A state titles in 2001 and 2002. Last season at Oklahoma, she hit .284 with 14 extra base hits, including seven home runs. The right hander began the season at shortstop before moving to second base where she became the first freshman in Sooner history to record a home run in three straight games.
Against UL-Lafayette in the NCAA Region 14 Championship game, the 5-8 sophomore recorded a solo home run to dead center field that closed out a 6-3 win over the Lady Cajuns and sent Oklahoma to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time. In addition, she drove in a pair of rally-starting runs in a 15-7 win over No. 7 Texas A&M.
