BATON ROUGE — Terry Martin, Jr., of Monroe, La., who played for Texas Tech in the first part of the 2005-06 season, has enrolled at LSU and attended classes here Tuesday when the spring semester began.
Martin, under the transfer rules, will sit out until the end of the fall 2006 semester and will have 2 1/2 years of eligibility remaining to play for LSU. He is expected to join the team for his first practice after the team returns to practice Thursday after Wednesday’s game at Mississippi State.
Martin, Jr., played for his father, Terry Martin, Sr., at Richwood High School in Monroe where they won the Class 3A state championship. The Louisiana Sports Writers Association named Martin, Jr., the Class 3A Outstanding Player in the state after averaging 24 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists a game.
The 6-6 Martin started eight of the 14 games he played for the Red Raiders, averaging 7.4 points and 3.6 rebounds a game.
“He has been accepted at LSU and attended class (Tuesday),” said LSU coach John Brady. “We are excited about having him here on our campus. He is a quality young man who will help our program in the future and we look forward to having him begin practicing with our players later this week.”
