BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team was ranked No. 10 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in its Fila Preseason Poll released Tuesday.
In addition to the team, LSU had several players ranked for their individual singles and doubles play. Junior Ken Skupski took top team honors, ranking 66th the nation in singles and 10th in doubles play with partner Mark Growcott.
Growcott would have likely been ranked high in singles as well, but a hip injury prevented him from playing enough fall matches to qualify.
The tandem of Colt Gaston and Danny Bryan were also ranked in the doubles poll, and will begin the season at No. 24.
The SEC placed eight schools in the top-25, four of which were in the Top 10. Florida and Georgia ranked No. 2 and No. 3 respectively, followed by Ole Miss at No. 6.
The Tigers will face stiff competition in their non-conference schedule as well, as they are scheduled to match up against No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 18 Ohio State and No. 27 Clemson.
LSU will kick off its 2006 campaign on Jan. 20 at the SEC Coaches Indoor Championship in Lexington, Ky.
