BATON ROUGE — Sophomore forward Elena Sutherland has been named to the 2005 Southeastern Conference Soccer Good Works Team as announced by the league office last week.
Sutherland is one of 12 student-athletes named to the team, which includes one member from each school in the SEC. The Sugarland, Texas, native is an active participant in the Shaquille O’Neal CHAMPS/Life Skills program and has contributed in community service projects with the 4-H University Club.
She is also an active participant in the STRIPES program at LSU, which held a tailgating event for all incoming freshmen to LSU before the fall semester. The biological sciences major helped orient freshmen to life at LSU by sharing her experiences with them.
Sutherland finished the 2005 season with one goal and two points while participating in 19 matches with six starts for the Tigers. She attempted 14 total shots, including seven shots on goal, and scored her first career goal in the second half against Southern on Oct. 31.
