BATON ROUGE — LSU continued to stake its claim as one of the nation’s best overall defenses on Saturday as the Tigers limited Ole Miss to just seven yards rushing and only 175 yards of total offense in the 40-7 win over the Rebels.

As a result, the Tigers continued its climb up the national statistical rankings on Sunday as LSU is now ranked among the top 10 teams in the nation in four defensive categories.

LSU is No. 4 in the nation in scoring defense, allowing only 13.1 points per game. In 10 games this year, LSU has allowed only 131 points, including just 43 first half points. LSU’s only allowed one first quarter touchdown this year as the Tigers have outscored their opponents 70-13 in the first stanza this year. .

The Tigers are also No. 4 in the nation in pass defense efficiency with a 94.0 rating. LSU is No. 7 nationally in total defense, allowing 282.5 yards per game and the Tigers are No. 8 in the nation in rushing defense with a 96.4 average per contest.

On Friday, LSU’s No. 8-rated rushing defense will face an Arkansas team that leads the SEC and ranks No. 9 in the nation in rushing yards with 235 a game.

The Tigers rank first in the SEC and No. 2 nationally in net punting with a 39.8 average.

Offensively, the Tigers are second in the SEC and No. 34 in the nation with 31.0 points per game. LSU leads the SEC and ranks No. 12 in the nation in pass efficiency with a 151.2 rating. In 10 games this year, the Tigers have thrown for 2,358 yards and 18 touchdowns. In 278 attempts, LSU has only been intercepted six times.
