BATON ROUGE — For the third time this season, LSU right side hitter Marina Skender was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after the Tigers went 1-1 on the road last week.

The native of Zagreb, Croatia, led the Tigers to a 3-2 win over Ole Miss on the road, recording her first 20-plus kill performance of the season. In addition, she led the match with four service aces and ranked second in the match with a .439 hitting percentage.

Against Mississippi State, she posted the second most kills in the match with 16 while ranking third in the match with a .379 hitting percentage. In the first game, she helped LSU rally back from a 27-24 deficit to tie the game at 29 all on a kill before taking the game on a block, 31-29.

For the week, she led the team in kills, kills per game, service aces, aces per game, points and points per game. In addition, she ranked second on the team in hitting percentage and third in blocks and blocks per game. For the season, she ranks second on the team in with a .319 hitting percentage, 242 kills and 25 service aces, while posting the third best mark with 0.89 blocks per game.

This is the third SEC Freshman of the Week honor for her this season and the fourth SEC Freshman of the Week honor for the Tigers this year. On the season, LSU athletes have been honored by the conference a total of nine times, the most of any school in the league, including two SEC Player of the Week honors and three SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The Tigers will close out the regular season at home this week. LSU will take on SEC Western Division leader Arkansas on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before hosting Kentucky, which is tied with the Tigers in the league overall standings, on Friday at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.
