AUBURN, Ala. — LSU’s first round struggles continued in the first round of Auburn’s “The Derby” event at the Auburn University Club Friday, posting a 20-over par 308.

Host Auburn has the lead with a three-over par 291, three shots better than Georgia and Duke at six-over 294. Virginia and Tennessee are tied for fourth at nine-over 297. LSU’s 308 total puts it in a tie for 10th place, 17 strokes out of first.

Sophomores Rebecca Kuhn and Kim Meck led LSU with a three-over par 75. The pair is tied for 19th place in the standings. Meck is coming off a second place finish last week in the Chrysler Challenge at Sandestin.

The Tigers also counted 79s from Melissa Eaton and Alexis Rather.

The individual leader is Maria Martinez of Auburn at three-under 69 with Elizabeth Janangelo of Duke and Taylor Leon of Georgia tied for second at one-under 71. Four other golfers are at even par 72.

“Again, we just couldn’t get anything going as a team, the thing that has haunted us in all four tournaments,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We have got to come out (Saturday) and grind out a good round to allow us to end the fall on a good note.”

The second round begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with the tournament to conclude on Sunday. Live scoring for the event can be found at www.golfstat.com.
