PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — LSU women’s tennis sophomore Anastasiya Dubova picked up a three-set win over Melissa Cornett of Arkansas on day two of the SEC Coaches Classic in Peachtree City, Ga.
She dropped a close first set, 7-6, but then surged back to take the match to three sets and win both the second and third, 6-0, and 6-1, respectively.
“We had a much better day today,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “We’re still not where we want to be, but we competed hard and had a much better outing.”
Tiffany Tucker could not capture her own singles win Friday. She fell to Florida’s Lolita Frangulyan in two sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Both Lady Tigers will play singles matches tomorrow. Dubova will face Grace Blakely of South Carolina while Tucker will go up against Ole Miss’ Preethi Subramanian.
The pair played one doubles match Friday as well, dropping a tight 9-8 contest to Mississippi State’s duo of Polina Kokoulina and Renee Joseph.
Minnis said there are no more doubles matches scheduled for the LSU pair, but one might be added to get more experience.
