BATON ROUGE — Sophomore midfielder Sara Pollock scored two goals and freshman goalkeeper Jackie Moseley earned her sixth career shutout to lead the LSU soccer team past the Southern Lady Jaguars, 4-0, in its regular season finale on Friday at the LSU Soccer Complex.

The Tigers (8-9-2, 3-7-1 SEC) improve to 3-0 in the series all-time and have outscored the Lady Jaguars (4-9, 4-5 SWAC) by a combined score of 23-0 in those three matches.

“It was a very productive evening for us,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “The right people got to rest and the right people got to stretch their legs and play 90 minutes. Southern was extremely organized and well-coached, and that program is headed in a great direction under John Knighten.”

Three Tigers scored their first career goal in the match led by Pollock, who put the Tigers up 1-0 early at the 4:50 mark of the first half after taking a pass from freshman forward Sammy Sanderson and ripping a shot inside the far post on a deflection off the goalkeeper. She scored her second goal of the match in the 41st minute of play with a shot inside the right post from 10 yards out on a pass from freshman defender Roslyn Jones.

Senior forward Kate Ripple and junior forward Joleen Phillips assisted Sanderson on her first career goal at the 7:18 mark of the first half when she banged a shot into the back of the net from point-blank range, and sophomore forward Elena Sutherland tacked on LSU’s final goal in the 65th minute of play by lobbing a shot just out of the goalkeeper’s reach and inside the far post from the left corner for her first career goal.

LSU attempted a total of 15 shots in the match, including eight shots on goal, and six corner kicks, while the Tigers defense had one of its better performances this season by limiting Southern to just one shot and no corner kicks. Moseley needed to save just one shot to record her sixth career shutout, and she moves into second place on the all-time list for shutouts in a single season with six.

The Tigers are set to compete in their first SEC Tournament since 2002 as they face the top-seeded Tennessee Lady Volunteers in the first round on Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Orange Beach Soccer Complex in Orange Beach, Ala.
