BATON ROUGE — LSU’s 56-3 win over North Texas on Saturday vaulted the Tigers into the top 10 in the nation in several statistical categories, in particular that of scoring defense, rushing defense and pass efficiency defense.

For the fourth straight game, LSU held an opponent to less than 20 points as the Tigers limited the Mean Green to only a first half 50-yard field goal in the win. The Tigers have now allowed a total of 50 points in their last five games.

As a result, LSU has moved all the way to No. 8 in the nation in scoring defense, allowing only 15.9 points per game. In seven games, the Tigers have yielded 13 touchdowns, six rushing and seven passing, and seven field goals.

The Tigers also rank second in the Southeastern Conference and eighth in the nation in rushing defense, holding opponents to 97.7 yards per game. In addition, LSU leads the SEC and ranks fifth nationally in pass efficiency defense with a 96.2 rating.

On the offensive side of the ball, LSU ranks second in the SEC and 27th in the nation in scoring with a 32.9 average. The Tigers also rank second in the league in total offense with 405 yards per game after racking up a season-high 566 yards in the win over the Mean Green.

The Tigers are first in the SEC and sixth in the nation in punt returns with a 17.0 average, while LSU continues to pace the league and rank No. 5 in the nation in net punting with a 39.2 average.

Individually, LSU senior Skyler Green leads the SEC and ranks sixth nationally in punt returns with a 16.0 average. Green, who holds the LSU career record with three punts returned for touchdowns, has 17 returns for 272 yards and one score this season. 

LSU running back Joseph Addai fell from his top spot in the SEC after seeing limited action in the win over North Texas. Addai rushed for seven yards and one touchdown on three carries against the Mean Green. For the year, Addai has rushed for 649 yards and seven touchdowns and he currently ranks sixth in the SEC with 92.7 yards per game.
